What's San Francisco With Out The NINERS, GIANTS and WARRIORS!
This is my childhood homey Phil Smith.
Phil and I went to middle school together and lived in the same hood from early childhood. Phil played for the Warriors the
only year they took championship thus far. Phil his brothers and all of us talked about making it to the pros and playing
pro sports while we were little kids a lot of us had talent and we tested that talent all the time playing against each for
schools and sand lot against different neighborhoods. I mean we were playing sports every day we could all year round.
When Phil decided he was going to be a basketball player it was fun to watch him grow from a kid to a pro.
The
thing is Phil never forgot who he was or where he came from and I appreciate him for doing it that way. My song
Success And Fame talks about that those who forget who they are and where they came from, the thing is How Can You Forget
Where You Came From? That's part of what made you who you are now.
I remember Phil telling me I need
to stick with music as he would see and hear me singing with groups. Now that I look back at it I think Phil was
not joking. The Warriors was the San Francisco Warriors at one time, they played at Kezar and the Cow Palace.
The
Giants
I remember all of us buying Giant uniforms as kids putting them on and playing baseball in the play yard
of the projects on Eddy St. and in the parks.
Some people dont know the Giants have had 3 homes in San
Francisco
1-Seal Stadium, 2-Candlestick Park, and now 3- AT&T Park.
Seals Stadium was located on 16th
and Potrero St.
Now enough can't be said about Mr. Barry Bonds Home Run King of the San Francisco Giants!
The
Niners
We had Niners uniforms as well when we were kids
The Niners use to play at Kezar over on Frederick St. I
went to Polytechnic High across the street from Kezar. When I made the varsity football team we played there it felt
good because as I said as a kid we would talk about playing in the pros. Those who went to Poly will never forget
what happened every Monday, we had to run around the outside of the whole stadium. The boys 3 times the girls onces now that
discrimination! Aint It? If you are ever on Frederick St the gyms are still there from Poly. As you face the south on
Frederick the boys gym is on the right and the girls on the left. Let me know if you ever see the gyms.
I root for
my San Francisco teams win loose or draw no band wagon thing here like some. To me sports is fun and should not be taken seriously
as some do in Soccer games where the fans just go crazy. You should be like my home boys at Monterrey Mexico these guys
play good strong clean soccer.
I was recently at a game they played in the USA I met with players, coaches
and the Vice President of the team, they were very nice to me.
Now adays some even put a lot of pressure on
kids to win, win, win, so they forget to let the kids have fun. I was never forced to play sports I did it because I loved
to play.
REMEMBER GROWN KIDS IT IS JUST A GAME FOLKS AND THEY ARE JUST KIDS!
